Beach Exploration! July 12, 2014, Centennial Beach, BC

This program provides you with a hands-on opportunity to explore the intertidal zone by searching for live aquatic animals at the beach. Guided by an experienced, friendly and knowledgeable professional biologist, you will discover the diversity of animals and plants that inhabit the intertidal zone; a place that is often overlooked. You will also learn how best to respect these animals during future beach adventures.

$10 for adults and $5 for children (17 and under).

NOTE: This program is conducted entirely outside. Please prepare yourself to dress appropriately for spending time outdoors and at the beach (e.g. hats, sunscreen, jackets, beach appropriate footwear etc). Our work near the shoreline may result in wet feet! Wearing water-resistant shoes or rubber boots is highly recommended!  THIS PROGRAM GOES RAIN OR SHINE.

Trip Leader:

Sheila Byers is a registered professional biologist that has authored the intertidal pamphlet and booklet, Explore the Rocky Shore at Stanley Park, and the annelid worm section of Marine Life of the Pacific Northwest.   She is an interpreter at the Beaty Biodiversity Museum and a volunteer at the Vancouver Aquarium and with Nature Vancouver. Sheila focuses on the taxonomy, natural history and ecology of marine invertebrates, specializing in marine worms.  She shares a concern about the health of our oceans and all that lives therein.
